Bethesda's Fallout 4 isn't quite the advancement everyone was hoping for. Sure, it's a great game, but we wanted a new engine and everything else that goes along with it. Still, much like Skyrim, Fallout 4 uses the Creation Engine and it supports 64-bit, which makes it perfect for modding. And since the tools are similar in more ways than one, it didn't take long for the talented community to publish amazing addons on Mod Nexus.
Here's a quick guide to get started installing Fallout 4 mods on PC. We'll be using the Nexus Mod Manager, which is universally recommended to keep things organized and to make installing larger packages an absolute breeze.
Nexus is a dedicated platform for modders to release and update their mods for various titles, including Fallout 4. As well as publishing content, Nexus also enables for discussion, feedback, support and more. The website is fairly easy to navigate with most mods correctly categorized for convenient filtering.
Install Nexus Mod Manager
- Register an account on the Nexus website.
- Download the Nexus Mod Manager (NMM).
- Install and then run NMM.
- Confirm the location of Fallout 4.
- Select Fallout 4.
- Hit OK.
- Choose where you wish to store downloaded mods (default drive is the one with Fallout 4 installed).
- Hit OK if an alert window shows.
We need to run Fallout 4 to the main menu before activating mods, so give the game a boot to initial menu and then quit. This will create the much-needed .ini file for editing and will ensure we don't run into issues with mods not working correctly at a later date.
Install Mods
- Search for mods on the Nexus website.
- Carefully read through the description of each mod.
- Choose the Files tab.
- Select 'Download with Manager' on the correct file(s) you need for the mod.
- Wait for the mods to download in NMM.
- Select a mod you wish to install and choose 'Install'.
Once you have a few mods downloaded you may notice the load order start to populate. This list is important because some mods and files need to be loaded by the game in a specific order. Mod authors generally offer information in mod descriptions on the Nexus should their files require to be configured in a set order, and there are even tools available that can check to see if there are any problems with your setup.
Download and install LOOT, which we strongly recommend you run each and every time you edit your load order or install/remove a mod. Modders create and release extra content for fun and for the love of scripting, but leaving an endorsement or even a donation can provide much-needed feedback, especially if you've enjoyed hours of entertainment because of said mod(s). Leaving a few dollars can really make their day, but do consider at least leaving a comment and endorsing their work.
Fallout 4 Mods Not Installing Xbox One
The impassioned team behind the incredible total conversion mod, Fallout 4: New Vegas, continues to make amazing progress on their ambitious fan project, each week filling those interested in on the journey to completion. This dedicated, fan-driven project brings the best of Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas into the massive world of Fallout 4. This project is so huge that even Bethesda has thrown in their support, and now we've got an even closer look at the progress being made.

'Weapon mods in Fallout: New Vegas, for the uninitiated, were handled from the player's Pip-Boy. When an upgrade was obtained, the player could use them from within their inventory, and they would be immediately applied to the player's weapons. While this was certainly fast and convenient, it sometimes didn't make much sense in the context of some upgrades which would normally require tools and ideally a clean, sand free environment. It also relegated upgrades to more or less a consumable upgrade to the weapon the player was using that could be used right after purchase,' the update reads.
'While this system worked fantastically in Fallout: New Vegas, we feel that the more mature system in Fallout 4 makes more sense, and offers more potential as far as gameplay experiences go. To that end, we'll be utilizing the upgrade system featured in Fallout 4,' the update adds.
Now more than ever, players will need to be familiar with that workbench when looking to upgrade their arsenal with both mods and perks. 'This means that specializing in weapon types is more valuable than playing a generalist role, and also that the player will be able to push some weapons that might not initially be compatible with a given playstyle in a direction more in line with their character build,' the update continues.
But the new system will be much more like the most recent title than that of the Mojave desert.
'Much like Fallout 4, most weapons in F4NV will have upgrades that can be applied to them. Our goal with the upgrade system is to push for a more horizontal upgrade progression in F4NV than found with the weapon upgrades in Fallout 4. Many upgrades in Fallout 4 were simply better than the ones preceding it in the upgrade tree, which lends itself well to the more generalist play style that Fallout 4 embraces, but in a game like Fallout: New Vegas where character builds are far more important, such a balancing scheme would quickly render many weapons useless for some character builds, or would leave them quickly outclassed by weapons that may not entirely make sense for a given character but are simply better to use. A more horizontal 'progression' will instead make upgrades more or less useful based upon your character build, meaning that two very different characters may use the same base weapon, with wildly different configurations so as to make for a weapon that is better tailored to their playstyle,' the update says.
Different calibers will also be available to upgrade, but won't provide a 'direct progression.' Instead, they will focus more on upgrades in an effort to enhance the overall experience.
For those that might be new to this project, the team has been working hard on this project for years now, working side by side with fans and Bethesda themselves to make sure this project is accurate, legal, and the perfect blend that fans have been hoping for.
Each week, the creative team offers unique insights into their progress towards completion, and you can bet that radioactive butt of yours that we've got you covered!

Fallout 4 allows you to take on an American life after nuclear fallout, but instead of rescuing people, forming settlements, putting the Minutemen back together and finding your son, why not customize the experience to suit your needs? There are thousands of mods available for Bethesda's title and many of them share similar qualities to Skyrim counterparts.
We rounded up some of the best to get you started.
Another Life
Similar to how Alternative Life works in Skyrim, with this mod installed you regain control of your destiny .. or rather how it begins. You will be able to select from 36 different occupations, each dictating starting gear, faction relations, and more.
Armor and Weapon Keywords Community Resource (AWKCR)
Aside from the horrifically long name, this incredible mod allows for other mods to work some magic with a standardized framework for armor and weapons. Not only that but crafting menus, color and decals and slot usage are all affected, to help prevent conflicts. If you wish to add some more stuff for your character to use, you need this mod.
Armorsmith Extended
After installing AWKCR, you'll want to pick up Armorsmith Extended. This is a huge mod that does a bunch of things. It can allow for shirts and other wearables to be worn under armor — because who wears plated armor on the skin? — and even make it possible to wear bandannas and other accessories while rocking a helmet.
Other cool features include the ability to rename clothing and craft more item types.
Venturing out into the wasteland with only the companions Bethesda deems acceptable isn't much fun. There are a number of beasts that would make interesting followers, which is exactly what Beast Master unlocks. You will now be able to take a freaking Brahmin with you. Who doesn't want a friendly two-headed cow to take down some mutants?
Craftable Ammo
You can now craft ammo. Here's to never again running out of rounds mid-fight.
Darker Nights
Just like Skyrim, the nights in Fallout 4 are way too bright for my liking. And just like Skyrim, you can install a wonderful mod called Darker Nights, which — unsurprisingly — makes the nights darker. You have a choice of just how dark you wish the nights to become too for some flexibility.
DEF_UI
This mod not only allows for the customization of the HUD (health, XP, V.A.T and other elements) but also the inventory and storage screens. It achieves something similar to that of Sky UI in Skyrim, making it much easier to manage everything, especially with a keyboard and mouse.
Full Dialogue Interface
This mod allows you to see exactly what your character is going to say in response to NPCs. When in a conversation in Fallout 4, it can prove frustrating to realize that your character's voice lines differ from selections on the dialog wheel. This is what Full Dialogue Interface addresses.
You will now be able to immerse yourself, knowing exactly what you're getting into.
Homemaker
Homemaker (also known as Expanded Settlements) is a mod for settlement Gods. Ideal for the creative mind, this mod allows for the creation of larger buildings with ease, not to mention new build sets for unique styling of settlements and a massive amount of objects that can be placed at secured locations. If you're a fan of the settlement system, you need this mod.
Improved Map with Visible Roads
The in-game map is handy to get around, but it doesn't show roads, which are far more important in the early game and on harder difficulty settings. Improved Map with Visible Roads does exactly what the name implies. It improves the map and adds roads across the board so you know where the nearest winding route of concrete is located.
More Where That Came From
The radio makes for more pleasant long journeys and adventures. With More Where That Came From installed, you'll want to rely on fast travel less in order to enjoy the 111 lore-friendly tracks added to the list of songs available for playback. This mod, in particular, adds all the tracks to the Diamon Radio station.
True Storms
True Storms is an exceptional mod, by the same modder who made the similarly named mod for Skyrim. This mod adds new weather patterns, sounds, visual effects, and other configurable details that give the wasteland some variability when venturing out the front gate.
Unlimited Settlement Objects
This one removes the maximum number of objects that can be placed in any one settlement. Enough said.
Composition 'Dark Horse' is a, and song which is styled in '- mashup', and has a length of three minutes and thirty-five seconds. According to Kathy Iandoli of, 'Dark Horse' contains a mixture of elements from 'trippy ',. Los 40 principales marzo 2019 320kps. Musically, the verses are built around icy rhythms and vocal samples, while the chorus' feature Perry singing into a gradual. The song contains a grimy, 'incredibly simplistic' production.
Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch
Bethesda games need some fixing, even after official patches have been released by the company. The same authors of the unofficial Oblivion and Skyrim patches return with the Fallout 4 patch. Hundreds of gameplay, quest, NPC, object, text, and placement bugs and issues are addressed in the mod.
It's safe to use and shouldn't break the game unless you have a ton of mods, where incompatibility may exist.
Worthy mention
The Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE) deserves a callout in our list, even though it's not technically available through Nexus. This handy tool allows for the installation and running of more powerful mods that can take advantage of even deeper hooks into Fallout 4.
